Hi
I have Trout Mask Replica, Clear Spot, Spotlight Kid and Safe As Milk. I would like to have more, but being that I have a very limited budget I'd like to get what you fine folks highly recommend for now.
Thanks

Re: What else?
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 8:56 PMShiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) is Beefheart at his most assured and demented. Everyone needs "Floppy Boot Stomp" and "Tropical Hot Dog Night" in their lives.

Re: What else?
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 10:12 PMThis would be the order I would recommend.
Lick My Decals Off, Baby, if you can find it. It's long out of print except in Japan. Actually, if you want a copy of the o/p Rhino reissue, let me know. In my view this is his absolute best work.
Doc at the Radar Station
The Original Bat Chain Puller, only available as a bootleg or the dubiously legitimate Dust Sucker. Same offer goes for this one, a pretty good sounding bootleg cd probably made from a promo cassette. The record was hung up in Zappa's legal troubles and never released.
Shiny Beast (Bat Chain Puller) - a remake of many of the tracks of the above with a different band.
Strictly Personal - the transition between Safe as Milk and Trout Mask complete with odd phasing treatments. -

Sun, November 27, 2005 - 10:18 PMThe Legendary A&M Sessions is a must!

Re: What else?
Sun, November 27, 2005 - 11:25 PMYou mean that Bat Chain Puller and Dust Sucker are the same? -

Re: What else?
Mon, November 28, 2005 - 12:26 AMEssentially yes, Dust Sucker has extra live tracks unrelated to the original and is probably from a different generation master, but the main tracks are from the original BCP. The Radar Station has more info on this.
See this page, the one I have is Original Bat Chain Puller + Safe As Milk (mono mix). The info for Dust Sucker is just below its listing.

Re: What else?
Mon, October 2, 2006 - 4:07 AMI have most of Captain Beefheart's albums on vinyl, and find myself sadly separated from my turntable and records right now, otherwise I could offer copies of Bat Chain Puller and Doc at the Radar Station, which are my favorites.
I do, at least, have the live album "I'm Going to Do What I Wanna Do" with me, and I'd be very happy to copy it, or trade it for a copy of the 'Original Bat Chain Puller' bootleg. Would you be game, Gidouille? -

Re: What else?
Wed, October 4, 2006 - 2:36 PMSure, I'll burn you a copy of Bat Chain Puller for a copy the live one. That's by the Shiny Beast group, is it not? Do you want the mono version of Safe As Milk that's included on the disc, as well? -

Re: What else?
Wed, October 4, 2006 - 3:05 PMHas anyone heard the Virgin remasters of Shiny Beast, Doc or Ice Cream? One site indicated they didn't sound much different, while the Radar Station, who I'm more inclined to believe, stated there was a significant improvement.
